Successful Examples of Internationalization Presented on International Training Week for Partner Universities

Successful examples of the internationalization of the University of Montenegro, new summer schools and study programs in English, were presented at the International Training Week for staff of partner universities, at the Rectorate of the University of Montenegro, in Podgorica. The training brought together representatives of partner universities from Slovenia, Spain, Germany and Romania who are staying at UMNE from November 7 to 11, 2022.

The representatives of the partner universities, on behalf of the UMNE, were greeted by the vice-rector of the UMNE, Sanja Peković, PhD, who pointed out that this event is also the final activity of the successfully implemented Erasmus + project Strengthening internationalization at Montenegrin universities through effective strategic planning - IESP."The development strategy of the University of Montenegro 2019-2014 recognizes internationalization as one of the most important directions for strengthening the international competitiveness and sustainable development of the University. The University of Montenegros commitment to internationalization was confirmed by the adoption of the UCG Internationalization Strategy 2021-2026, which was the most important outcome of this project," Vice-Rector Peković said. Among the most important presented results of this project are the first two accredited summer schools in English. These are the schools: "Sustainable Development of the Yachting and Cruising Industry" at the Kotor Maritime Faculty and "Entrepreneurship in Heritage Tourism" at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management.

The head of the Office for International Cooperation and Mobility of the UMNE, Ana Dragutinović, stated that through the association of the UMNE with colleagues from the University of Cadiz, the University of Ljubljana, and the University of the Cote dAzur, funding was approved for the Erasmus+ project Development of a regional joint masters program for the protection and management of the marine environment, in 2020" This will result in the first joint masters program in English," Dragutinović stated. The visiting representatives of the university had the opportunity to learn about the results of other implemented Erasmus+ projects for capacity building in the field of higher education. Among them is the project Reform of doctoral studies in Montenegro and Albania, an example of good practice, which resulted in the first program of doctoral studies in English "Sustainable Development". Also, they were presented with the recently received coordination project of the University of Montenegro, which, with the support of alumni, strives to improve the competencies of students and the employability of graduates in Montenegro and Kosovo, through the improvement of university cooperation with the business sector and the modification of the teaching process. It is about the project "Western Balkan entrepreneurial university alliances - keeping in touch for lifelong relations". In addition to the implementation of numerous projects, internationalization at the University of Montenegro will be greatly supported with, this year, the newly formed Office for Projects and the Francophone Office for Employment. The Francophone office was established in cooperation with the Francophone University Agency (AUF) in July of this year, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of employability and professional integration of Montenegrin students, as well as the development of entrepreneurial culture. Also important is the role of the Balkan Institute for Science and Innovation of the University of the Cote dAzur (BISI), which provides support to the University in establishing lifelong learning programs that should respond to the needs of the information and communication technology industry. Representatives of the partner universities will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the programs of the mentioned summer schools during a direct visit to the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management and the Maritime Faculty in Kotor, and they will also visit the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Economics and Fine Arts.
