The University of Montenegro Senate adopted the Internationalization Strategy of the University of Montenegro at its session held on 23 December 2020. The Internationalization Strategy represents the academic agenda and the strategic framework for enhancing international visibility and recognition of the University of Montenegro. Through strategic planning in the field of internationalization the University of Montenegro will strive to develop it institutional capacities, strengthen the international competitiveness and achieve the position of an internationally recognized university, above all in the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Area.
The main aim is to the ensure attractive environment for scientific and artistic work, both for the University of Montenegro staff and for foreign researchers by creating opportunities for short-term and long-term incoming and outgoing mobility, to attract higher numbers of incoming students by providing a number of courses and study programmes in English. The activities are also designed so as to strengthen the existing and increase new partnerships with renowned higher education institutions from the region and wider in the areas of joint interest, to establish joint study programmes at all levels of studies, to prepare and implement joint research and structural projects, to participate actively in international university associations.
The Strategy is based on the findings of the current state in the area of internationalization at the University of Montenegro, the SWOT analysis and the conducted benchmarking analysis in the field of internationalization between the University of Montenegro and the University of Ljubljana.
The Strategy defines sustainable objectives within four priority areas:
- Internationalization of teaching
- Internationalization of research
- Mobility of students and staff
- International positioning
The University of Montenegro Internationalization Strategy was prepared through a participative process with inputs from organizational units of the University of Montenegro and students’ representatives who gave their comments for improving the content of the Strategy. Expert comments were given also by the EU partners: the University of Ljubljana, University of Cadiz and the University Code d’ Azur, as well as the Ministry of Science, Ministry of Education and the Agency for Control and Quality Assurance of Higher Education of Montenegro. Professor Tomaž Čater from the University of Ljubljana who previously conducted training in strategic planning for Montenegrin HEIs management staff gave his expert comments to the draft document.
